Meningitis B: Beat it Now

The UK's first Meningitis B vaccine has been licensed. It will save thousands of lives, especially among children under five, who are most at risk. Meningitis B is the most common form of the disease in the UK and one of the deadliest.

We need the Government to quickly introduce the Meningitis B vaccine, so it will be given to all children and save as many lives as possible.

Why we need the vaccine:

Tommy fought hard but to win his battle against meningitis B he had to have both legs, his right hand and left hand fingers amputated in March 2012.

In memory of my brother who died when he was 6 years old in 1991 from meningitis septicemia and the doctors/hospital would not listen to my mothers concerns until he got that bad he needed to be rushed into hospital and by then it was too late (he only got the rash after he died) Miss you loads Danny, always in our hearts and thoughts my angel brother.. never forgotten, I know you are watching us from above :) xxxxxxxx

We were extremely lucky that Mia (19 months) never became unwell and that a fantastic GP took her meningoccocal rash seriously, despite no other symptoms. We were seen within minutes of me noticing the rash and she was started on treatment immediately, before we even got to the hospital. Her consultant was convinced it was these quick actions of the out of hours GP that resulted in her full and quick recovery. We are very fortunate to have such a fantastic out of hours GP service and peadiatric unit nearby

10 years ago I contracted Meningitis B & septicaemia, several weeks in hopsital, many months of rehab and on-going treatment years later I am one of the lucky ones who survived with only a handful of issues. But we no longer have to rely on luck now that there is a vaccine out there that can prevent the pain and suffering of those that contract this deadly disease. Please introduce this vaccine to the Immunisation Schedule and save thousands of lives.

This is my beautiful granddaughter Freya. We lost her on Christmas Eve 2012. No words can express the sadness we all feel. Please Please bring the vaccine into the immunization program at the earliest opportunity. Its the only hope to prevent this terrible disease and its devastating effect on families in the future. The speed of the illness is overwhelming and so rapid there is hardly any time to act and sadly in Freya's case the outcome was so awful words cannot really describe it. It took 5 hrs to lose Ade - he was just 19yrs looking forward to enjoying life. They say time heals the pain but it has gone almost 6yrs now and the pain is still as raw. You do not wish your worst enemy to go through such a pain. I am blessed to have other children but the fear of losing them to such a terrible disease scares me to death. We need to stop this devastating disease and prevent families from going through such agony.

If this vaccine is commonly available in Europe and not the UK? Why not? Europe is too in a recession so I believe cost should not be the blanket answer on this.
