Easter bunny

A huge thank you to Val Crane who has been selling special knitting packs for Meningitis UK.


Over the past few months, Val has been encouraging members of the community to come together to knit a bunny in aid of the charity.


Meningitis UK was given permission by Debbie Bliss, the knitting designer, to use her toy bunny pattern to raise funds for the charity and Designer Yarns Ltd, donated the wool for the project.

Charity Ball for Meningitis UK 2013

A spectacular ball is happening on Friday the 10th of May this year at the Orwell Hotel, in Felixstowe. Please call Steve Bloomfield on 07976789397 if you would like to discuss tickets. Steve is also looking for auction items to help us raise as much money as possible for the fight against this terrible illness.

 

Recent event success

 

Symba, the ballet production from Pearl Productions that Meningitis UK Ambassador Onor Crummay was involved in, has raised over £2,700 for us!  It was a two day event in November 2012 and was spectacular to watch. Thanks very much Onor!

 

 

John and Lesley Tanton put on another gig in memory of their son Mark who very sadly died aged 14 of Group Y Meningococcal Meningitis. The 5th of January 2013 event was called 'Mark III, Mark's Benefit Gig' and the quality of the 7 performances were outstanding. Mark played bass with 'Behind Closed Doors' and was one of the bands fonding members. Through auctions, ticket, merchandise and drink sales they raised over £800! 


Meningitis survivor Joanne Jacobs put on a DJ night in Manchester on the 2nd of November 2012 and raised over £600. She is planning on doing other fundraising events for Meningitis UK in the future and it's great to have Joanne on board! This photo is of Joanne and her husband.

 

 

Millie Burrell raised 600 pounds at her disco which was in aid of Meningitis UK on Friday the 30th of November 2012! This was in memory of her little sister Ruby, who tragically passed away in 2010 aged 21 months.

 

 

 

A big thank you to Ben Griffiths and his friends who did a 25 mile walk in celebration of Ross Smith. They raised nearly £2000. Ross contracted meningitis and went into a coma. His family were facing the possibility that he could die and started thinking about funeral arrangements. But Ross surprised everyone when he woke up! He has now gone home from hospital and is doing very well. Everyone at Meningits UK is thinking about Ross and wishing him well!

 

Michael Biggs and friends held a Quiz Night in October 2012 to raise vital funds for Meningitis UK. It was a great evening, which was attended by many people. This was in memory of his grandchild Grace Violet Keown.

 

 

 

Congratulations to Jennifer Roberts who walked on the O2 Arena roof in London to raise money for Meningitis UK! This was in memory of her son, Keiron, who died on Christmas day in 1990 from meningococcal septiceamia. Keiron very sadly died aged 8 months.

 

 

 

Sally Clipson had a great idea when it came to raising money for Meningitis UK! She created a pop up restaurant at her house and had a fine dining menu. This was in memory of her daughter Amelie Clipson-Smith who very sadly died aged 3 years old in 2008.

 

 

 

A big well done to Mick Locke who raised £250 for Meningitis UK at his charity day in Carlisle. The family event was a great success and Britain's Got Talent Finalists ReConnected made an appearance! Mick's son Conor had meningitis in the past but is now doing well.

 

 

 

Congratulations to Richard and Geraldine Harbinson who celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary on 24th September 2012. In lieu of gifts they asked guests to make a small donation to Meningitis UK, they raised a fantastic £516.10. They are pictured with their grandson Fionn who survived meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia.


 

Siobhaun Clohessy recently held a fun day to fundraise for Meningitis UK! This was on the 27th of August 2012 and she managed to raise hundreds. Lots of people of different ages came along to this event which happened in Essex. The founder of the charity Steve Dayman went along and had a great time!

 

 

 

Tony Wooller and partner Sheila Tompkins were inspired by BBC's Top Gear when they did some fundraising for Meningitis UK! On the 23rd August 2012 they joined the StreetSafari, Staple2Naples banger rally. They had to purchase a pre 96 vehicle for less than £250 and drive it 1600 miles across Europe, from Calais to Naples.They managed to do it and the car was still intact! This photo was taken of them both near the swiss alps!

 

 

Hannah and James Smart held an event on Friday 10th August 2012 in memory of their daughter Kelsey. They raised well over £6,000 at the birthday fundraiser which included a raffle and many stalls.

 

 

 

Emma McElhinney and her partner Mike Towne have been massive supporters of Meningitis UK ever since their son Callum tragically passed away from this awful disease in January 2012. They have raised thousands through a variety of fundraising activities. In this photo they are with the founder of the charity, Steve Dayman. A cheque was presented to Meningitis UK for £1.576.08 from the Rose and Crown Pub.

 

 

July 2012 was a very successful fundraising month for Meningitis UK! A big thank you to Corinne Regan and her team who put on a rounders and fun day on the 21st of July in Berkeley. They raised 6,000 for the charity! Also a big thank you to Amanda Thompson who raised well over 3,000 for Meningitis UK during her charity night on the 20th of July called Harry's NIght Out.

 

Nick Collis and his wife Helen hosted a fantastic Charity Night in their village, with lots of fun and games for all! The night was a brilliant success with over 90 people attending and having a great time! A fantastic 776 pounds was raised on the day, which will be going towards Nick's total for his 126 mile bike ride. Nick is doing a brilliant job of fundraising for Meningitis UK and raising awareness of the disease.

 

Tom Froude contracted near-fatal pneumococcal meningitis as a baby but is now a happy and healthy 32 year old who married in June 2012. Tom, who is deaf, married Mary who also has no hearing at St Peter and St Paul's Church in Wadhurst, East Sussex. 330 pounds was raised during their pre-honeymoon party! Tom's mum said: "He and his bride have come through huge traumas in infancy to become the grounded young people they are today."

 

'Steve Djmaestro Walker' took to his decs again to raise money for Meningitis UK in July 2012 and raised around 100 pounds. Steve knows only too well how meningitis can have a big impact on someone's life as he contracted the disease several years ago. He now dedicates much of his time to raising awareness.

 

 

Meningitis UK wants to thank Sharon McDonald and her friends from Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, who ran a Baked Bean Bath Challenge! They raised nearly 1,500 and got very messy in the process! They used around 80 tins of beans during the event and many supporters came dressed up for the day.

 

 

A big thank you to David Egerton who did a Mid Wales Challenge Walk.  A day to be proud of for all involved, including Andy and Georgina Keeling who lost there 13 year old son Liam to Meningitis, colleagues of Andy from Aldridge Delivery Office, school teachers from The George Salter Academy, workers from Toyota GB and school girls Callie O`Grady, Atalia Ibanga and sisters Anna and Millie Rooney.  £4,000 raised.
