Grab your glad rags and have a ball 4 Meningitis UK!
If you fancy having a ball and helping charity at the same time, Bristol-based charity Meningitis UK will be holding Spencer's Ball, their annual black-tie event on Friday 10th November 2006.
The ball will take place at Tortworth Court, Four Pillars Hotel, near Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucester and promises to be a fantastic, fun-filled evening including a luxury four course dinner, casino, raffle and charity auction followed by music and dancing to the live band ‘Jusould', so that party goers can dance the night away. On top of all this, there will also be the tranquil surroundings and elegance of the Grade II listed Victorian Tortworth Court itself to enjoy.
All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting Meningitis UK's research to find a vaccine to eradicate meningitis. Sadly, although successful vaccines exist to protect against some forms of meningitis, there is still no vaccine to protect against all strains, including the most common - meningococcal group B. Meningitis can develop so quickly there is little time to act and is a devastating disease that can kill in hours.
The ball is named after Spencer, who is Steve Dayman, the Chief Executive of Meningitis UK's son who he lost to meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia in 1982 at 14-months-old and due its ongoing success, has become an annual event.
Louise Graham, Spencer's older sister said, "This event was initially a one-off event to mark the year Spencer would have been 18, but it has been such a success that 7 years on, Spencer's Ball is still going strong. Everyone always lets their hair down and has a good night - helping us to raise vital funds for Meningitis UK. We have an amazing auction this year which includes an original signed photo of George Best, a snooker cue signed by Ronnie O'Sullivan, a Manchester United T-Shirt signed by Denis Law, a Mulberry handbag and a £100 voucher for Hobbs hairdressing in Bristol!"
