Hundreds support Bristol-based charity Meningitis UK’s marathon walk to raise over £100,000

Hundreds of supporters, many of whom have experienced the trauma and devastation meningitis can cause have come together over the last 40-days to support Bristol-based charity Meningitis UK's walk from John O'Groats to land's End to raise a magnificent £100,000. The proceeds from the walk will go towards funding vital research to find a vaccine to prevent all forms of meningitis and raising awareness of the disease.

The walk was led by the charity's Chief Executive Steve Dayman from Alveston who lost his 14-month-old son Spencer to meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia in 1982. Steve walked the entire gruelling 906 mile route and battled the elements to finish in Land's End on Sunday 29th October.

Steve said "We are really pleased to have reached our target and raised over £100,000. We have been astounded by the dedication of everyone who took part in the walk and by the generosity of those who supported us along the route. The weather was very miserable at times but everyone carried on with determination. The money raised will be instrumental in helping us to fund research and ultimately achieve our goal to find a vaccine to protect against all forms of meningitis."
