Meningitis UK thanks families with lifesaving school pack

"Bacterial meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia is of particular concern at this time of year when through the winter months the number of cases, early identification and diagnosis is crucial for a successful outcome. These information packs are an important resource in raising awareness of what to look for." Said Meningitis UK medical spokesperson and consultant paediatrician Dr Mark Rollins from The Causeway Hospital, Coleraine.

Meningitis UK has been awarded a grant from Derry City Council to provide an information pack to every school in the Derry area.

The initiative will be launched at Drumhoe School, 10.30 am, Thurs, 24th November

The Lifesaving information pack includes a meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia symptoms fridge magnet, questions and answers leaflet, awareness poster, wallet sized symptoms card and questionnaire which will be used to monitor the recipients knowledge of the disease.

For example many people believe that the meningitis C vaccine protects against all forms of the disease, although tragically the vaccine does not protect against all forms of the disease.
