Paul Hobbs joined forces with Meningitis UK and its supporters for the Summer Stroll from Bath to Bristol
Fundraising great Paul Hobbs, Head Coach of Bristol Rugby Club Richard Hill and ITV West Sports presenter Jed Pitman set off on the first leg of the Summer Stroll to Bristol Rovers Football Club accompanied by supporters to raise money for Meningitis UK
Bristol's charity event of the summer, sponsored by Edward Ware Homes took place on Saturday 8th July when fundraising legend Paul Hobbs, the Head Coach of Bristol Rugby Club Richard Hill and ITV West Sports presenter Jed Pitman joined forces with Bristol based charity Meningitis UK and its supporters to launch the start of the Summer Stroll at Bath Rugby Club.
Strollers passed through Saltford, Keynsham and Brislington, where a free lunch was laid on and they finished 16 miles later in style at Bristol Rovers Memorial Ground where there was an after party with a complimentary buffet for their much appreciated efforts.
Steve Dayman, Chief Executive of Meningitis UK says "We are so grateful to all those who came along on this great day out and supported Meningitis UK. We would also like to thank Paul for organising the Summer Stroll for Meningitis UK."
Paul Hobbs explained why he wanted to support Meningitis UK ‘I wanted to help Meningitis UK as meningitis can cause so much devastation and can often strike with little or no warning. I will be delighted if I can establish this as an annual event for Meningitis UK over the next few years. I want to do my bit in helping the charity's vision to find a vaccine to eradicate all forms of meningitis and helping a local charity in Bristol gives me great satisfaction.'
Although successful vaccines exist to protect against some forms of meningitis, there is still no vaccine to protect against all strains of the disease, including the most common - Meningitis B.
Meningitis UK rely entirely on charitable donations so raising funds is crucial in enabling the charity to continue working towards preventing these diseases.
