Supporters from Brampton in Cumbria present Meningitis UK with a cheque for over £1,000

Louise Hogg and Heather Bowden from Brampton in Cumbria will be presenting Meningitis UK with a cheque for £1,082 which they have raised through a raffle, donating tips and holding an event on bonfire night.

Heather Bowden said "I lost my cousin George when he was 6-months-old to meningitis, so this is a charity very close to our hearts. My mum Wendy, who is the licensee of the Lane End, is also a committed supporter of Meningitis UK - we all want to raise money to try and help stop other families experiencing the heartache and suffering that meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia can cause."

Meningitis UK represents hundreds of families who have suffered the devastation of meningitis and has a single focus - to support research into finding a vaccine to eradicate all forms of meningitis. Sadly, although successful vaccines exist to protect against some forms of meningitis, there is still no vaccine to protect against all strains of the disease, including the most common - Meningitis B.

Steve Dayman, Chief Executive of Meningitis UK says "We are really grateful to the staff and customers at the Lane End Inn for their support. Meningitis UK rely entirely on charitable donations so their fantastic generosity is crucial in enabling the charity to continue making a significant contribution towards eradicating meningitis."
